Dr Emma Lawrence, Author & Illustrator
After a successful career in the NHS for over 20 years, Emma decided to pursue her passion for illustration and design. She had worked as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist using her creativity to come up with varied solutions in the rehabilitation of people with acquired memory and cognitive disorders. She also recognised that learning and reading can be aided with rhyme and this is reflected in her writing style.
Since childhood she has always loved drawing and making things, particularly relating to nature. From collecting shells on the beaches of North Wales, pressing wildflowers and drawing outside to making driftwood boats or painting the countryside and birds. She is keen to encourage children to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and appreciate all our wonderful wildlife, particularly the little bugs and creatures that are often overlooked. After seeing many bold and colourful books about grand giraffes, fancy tigers and jungle tales, she was keen to demonstrate the beauty and value of what we have around us. From a town backyard, a grassy park or wild hedgerow, there is so much to see and investigate which is accessible to everyone. This led to the development of the Little Nature Explorers series.
Emma also produces a range of greetings cards and gifts which feature her unique illustrations. She is also available for commissions and licencing. See her work at Emma Lawrence Designs.
She is a member of the Association of Illustrators and the Society of Authors.
